I love how everybody posts their music here for reviews, and nobody ever has anything to say about it. Ever. Yet people keep posting songs on here. I mean, you don't think anyone's ever going to say something, do you?
As a musician, it's a shame.
I was really hoping for something. Anything.
But I guess the crickets chirping will have to suffice.
In contrasting this track against one of the tracks on your tindeck profile a real departure in both form and feel is apparent. intimate in feel, braver in form and much more interesting at a
gut level. liquid and dreamlike with both potency and presence.
overall reminiscent of early soundgarden/motherlovebone which themselves were reminiscent of 60s garage rock (a fact often overlooked by chroniclers of the grunge era)
i say reminiscent rather than derivative, you guys definitely have your own sound which like the aforementioned artists evokes the overall feel of earlier eras in a haunting almost deja-vu like manner.
this is reflected adequately in production particularly in the presentation of the guitar parts and the vocal sounds. the 'two-tone' vocal approach is a winner. the additional percussion mixes well with a surprisingly clear bass cutting through those walls of delay and reverb.
I have heard bands this good before and often felt that they were just a couple of steps away from true greatness-a transition made successfully by only a few artists. not all artists aspire to make the next level, nor is it practical for everybody to do so. honesty, open-mindedness and willingness prove key in this regard. sacrifice and surrender of anything that just isnt quite working.
Such successful transitions have invariably involved attaining to world class production and the attendant transformation of the band as artists (the more classical notion of the role of a producer as songwriting ally and band coach) Its not easy letting go of unnecessary elements to make room for space. sometimes a really good six minute song makes a truly great four minute song. and vice versa. this is where a real producer will be worth their weight in gold. their role is almost shamanic-to assist the artist in binding the existing elements together in a master vision with scope and dimension beyond anything the artist themselves could imagine without such a guide.
Whatever your aspirations,
fantastic work guys.
It may well be that as 'insecure' artists ourselves we feel hesitant to offer anything of a critical nature concerning the work of others. however i am glad that you pressed the issue as it has inspired me to explode this fear and practice my writing whilst I am it.
i am yet to meet a fear that wouldnt explode ;p!
